Transnet SOC Limited (“Transnet”) announced relief at the signing of a three-year wage agreement with labour unions -the South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (SATAWU) and United National Transport Union (UNTU).
This follows results of a decision from the conciliation process, at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration (CCMA).
The wage agreement provides for a total of an
18% increment over the three-year period.
The implementation of the agreement kicks in at 6% each year, starting from the current financial year 2025/26 until 2028.
The 6% includes increases to basic salary and related benefits, such as the 13th cheque, pension fund contribution, medical aid subsidy and housing allowance.
SJ van Vuuren, UNTU Secretary General, said “as the majority Union at Transnet, this agreement will be applicable to all bargaining unit employees. We remain proud of what has been achieved and reaffirm our commitment to fighting for fair, secure and improved working conditions for all our members and broader Transnet employees.”
