About 300 people were left homeless, after a fire swept through Bossiesgif, in Plettenberg Bay, in the Southern Cape, in the early hours of Monday.
The Bitou Municipality said this figure was confirmed by its Joint Operating Centre.
Officials including the executive council leadership, are at the community hall, where victims of the fire are housed temporarily, so are rescue organisations such as Gift of the Givers.
