About 3,500 trees will be planted this month in Tshwane, marking the start of Arbor Month.
Bernice Swarts, Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, who launched the initiative on Sunday, said “Arbor Month is important as it celebrates and creates awareness of the vital role that trees play in the fight against deforestation and climate change.”
She also said “trees play a crucial role in improving the quality of our air. “
On Sunday, the Deputy Minister initiated the Forest of Freedom in Tshwane, and planted trees in Kalafong Park in Atteridgeville, Springbok Park in Hatfield and Fountains Valley Resort in Groenkloof Nature Reserve.
