There are now four new cases of Foot and Mouth disease (FMD) reported in Viljoenskroon, in the Free State. 

This brings the number of cases to 15, up from 11, in the area, and about 34 cases in the Province.

Six hotspots in the area are Kroonstad, Viljoenskroon, Deneysville, Cornelia/Frankfort, Heilbron and Odendaalsrus.

Moliehi Moeng, Head of Communications at the Free State Department of Agriculture, said affected farms would be prioritised for vaccination, which began immediately. 

Restrictions in the movement of the animals, was imposed on all farms within a 10 kilometres radius of infected farms.

There were 270 cases of the outbreak, since July 2025, in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, North West and the Free State.
