5 suspects were arrested for abalone poaching in Jeffrey’s Bay, on Thursday, the 10 July 2025.
The men aged between 22 and 37, were arrested by a multidisciplinary Abalone Task Team, operating in the Kouga Municipal area.
They were caught with abalone worth about two hundred and fifty thousand rand (R250 000).
They appeared before the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on Friday, the 11 July 2025.
The police said in a statement, they spotted men carrying bags, suspected to be filled with abalone and arrested them, in terms of the Marine Living Resources Act, Act no 18 of 1998.
