The police said in a statement, task teams continue work in the Capricorn and Waterberg District, to combat illegal mining.This, after abandoned mining tools and equipment, were found by the Vala uMgodi teams, in the Makapane Valley Heritage Site, this week.
Police said they responded to reports of active illegal mining at the Eersteling Monument. Upon seeing the police, the suspects fled, but five individuals found loading mining equipment into a vehicle, were arrested.
One suspect was found in possession of a small plastic container, containing gold.
