About 5,500 residents were instructed to evacuate, because authorities suspect a 120-year-old Wahiawa dam, could collapse.
This follows water levels rising up to 85 feet.
Honolulu officials blew emergency sirens along Oahu’s North Shore, on Friday, where rising waters damaged homes, downstream of the dam.
Although homes were swept away, there were no casualties reported.
Ian Scheuring, spokesperson at Honolulu, said search and rescue teams were out scouting for stranded people.
Active evacuation orders are in parts of Haleiwa and Waialua.
Meteorologists have attributed the heavy downpours in Hawaii to winter storms called “Kona lows.”
They also said this could be the worst flooding in 20 years.
