About 6 children have died in a fire at the Villa Liza, an informal settlement, on the East Rand, on Friday evening. 

This is the second fire in just days, following another toxic one, where pupils and a teacher died from Comet Primary School.

Two families last week, also died trapped in a house in Boksburg.

In a separate incident, Disaster and Emergency Management Services found the remains of a four-year-old child during a search-and-rescue, in Boksburg last week.

On the morning of 21 June 2025, a devastating fire broke out in the Blue Sky Informal Settlement in Boksburg, where another 6 people lost their lives, and informal homes destroyed.

Graphite Fire Prevention and SecureFire, in collaboration with Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, responded to that emergency.

Meteorologists have shared an image illustrating a strong high-pressure system has settled over South Africa.

It shows severe mid-latitude cyclones South of SA.

It remains cold in most parts of the country- southern Northern Cape, northern Eastern Cape, southern and the Free State. 

Frosty mornings are expected to continue into the new week- Southeastern Namibia, Southwestern Botswana and large parts of SA’s interior.
