About seven (7) waste collection trucks were introduced today by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

The City said the trucks are a significant investment to the city’s public health infrastructure, aimed to bolster waste collection efforts.

Thsonono Buyeye, Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Public Health, in the Metro, said the arrival of the fleet is a major financial boost set to alleviate financial pressures on the department.

“In a bid to mitigate reliance on outsourced waste collection compactor trucks, council has resolved to implement a three-year municipal fleet recapitalization plan, allocating R30 million annually, commencing this year.”

Buyeye, said in addition, waste collection in the City, is set to become more effective and efficient.
The trucks are designed to collect larger volumes of waste with greater speed and efficiency.
They also have an advanced lifting gear, set to effortlessly collect different types of waste.

The City also said it has a security strategy to protect the newbies against vandalism and theft.
