The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Conservation Congress, kicks off in Abu Dhabi, from Thursday, the 09th until the 13th October 2025.

The Reverse the Red Species Pavilion, will be held as part of the congress.

It is a coalition, driving action for species, and advocating for species recovery strategies, to reverse biodiversity loss.

Most sessions are 90-minute long, conducted fishbowl style, with 5 speakers at a time. Today’s sessions will explore the linkages between species and climate solutions, as well as funding for the effective protection of species.

The IUCN’s first Philanthropy for Nature Summit, also took place on the eve of the World Conservation Congress on Tuesday.  It was co-hosted by the IUCN and Earth Zayed Philanthropies, in partnership with the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chair of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council and Chair of Erth Zayed Philanthropies.

Dr Grethel Aguilar, IUCN Director General, said “the inaugural IUCN Philanthropy Summit has laid the groundwork for stronger collaboration and new alliances among like-minded philanthropists. This marks the beginning of a new chapter – one where philanthropy helps shape the future of conservation and fosters a nature-positive, climate-resilient world for generations to come.”
