Mop up has begun in Cederberg, specifically at Remhoogte and Buffelshoek.

Friday marks day 12 of a fire that has burnt an estimated 53 000 hectares.

Cape Nature said in a statement on Friday, while fires in Nieuwoudtspass and Kleinjongenskraal were also contained,

teams would remain on the ground, to attend to remaining hotspots and flare ups.

The fire at Kleinplasie and Buffelshoek, was also contained by teams from the West Coast District Municipality (WCDM) and Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM).

Firefighters have come from CapeNature, Working on Fire (WoF), Cape Winelands District, West Coast District Municipality, volunteers and landowners.

Cape Nature also said further ecological assessments will be conducted, with partner Sustainable Cederberg, to evaluate the impact on biodiversity, with particular attention given to Cedar (Clanwilliam Cedar) trees affected by the fire.

Encouraging signs of recovery are already visible, with new growth observed in wetlands and stream areas.
