David Mahlobo, Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation alongside Dr Nasiphi Moya, the Mayor of Tshwane and Franc Boshielo, MMC responsible for Utility Service, are at the Rietvlei Water Treatment Works.

The City of Tshwane said in a notice, the visit is to assess the restoration of the plant following its closure,  due to a lightning strike a few days ago.

The City also said a remedial plan from Ekurhuleni is expected at the end of June 2026.

Mahlobo expressed satisfaction with the upkeep of the infrastructure.

The plant, which supplies close to 15% of the capital city’s water, is located at the Rietvlei Nature Reserve.
