The Stellenbosch Municipality imposed Level 2 water restrictions to residents, including Homeowners Associations.
The town joins several of its neighbours, in the Western Cape, to impose restrictions.
The main supplier of Stellenbosch-the Wemmershoek dam, is just over 60%.
Each person is allowed to use 330 litres of water per day, with 40 kilolitres for drinking.
Indigent homes can use 300 litres, while guesthouses are encouraged to apply for exemption where necessary.
Watering gardens with a hose is disallowed after 9am and before 6pm.
Agricultural use is to be reduced by 10% compared to 2025.
Other severer restrictions at Level 6, are active in the same region-Dysselsdorp and De Rust, Level 4 in Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, and Beaufort West, as well as Level 2 in George and surrounding areas.
Dams levels in the Western Cape’s water supply system are at a combined 50,4%.
