Firefighters have been battling fires in Greece, since the 4th of July 2026.
More than 19,000 hectares of land was burnt, across Portugal, Spain, France and Greece.
The first blaze was ignited in the mountainous ravines near Thessaloniki, followed by another fire West of Athens.
The fire in Thessaloniki (Northern Greece) is still active.
It is burning northwest of the city, near the municipality of Oreokastro, where it engulfed an oil-processing facility and a recycling plant, West of Athens.
Another huge bellow of smoke was at pine forests of the Mandra area.
The Greek Fire Service and Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection urged households in Thessaloniki suburbs, to keep doors and windows closed due to thick, toxic smoke from industrial blazes.
