Heavy rains and floods affected electricity power lines and other Eskom infrastructure, on Thursday.

Eskom said its teams are currently on the ground attending to faults. 

Affected areas are Alfred Nzo, Amathole, Chris Hani, OR Tambo, Sarah Baartman District Municipalities as well as Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality.

Customers are urged to stay away from fallen or damaged powerlines and electrical infrastructure, as these may remain live and pose a serious danger. Members of the public should also avoid attempting to remove or approach damaged electrical equipment and should report any incidents to Eskom immediately.

Similarly, Emergency Services (EMS) in Johannesburg, urged motorists to exercise caution while driving and follow a safe distance, avoid crossing flooded roads and low lying bridges.
