The Portfolio Committee on Corporate Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, visited the Moses Kotane Municipality, last week Thursday, to monitor and evaluate service delivery across local government structures.
Speaking during the visit, Christian Jacobas, the Committee’s Chairperson, said the role of the parliamentary body, is to ensure that government funded projects are executed effectively and transparently, and that they respond to the needs of local communities.
The first project to be visited was the Motlhabe Housing Project, the second one inspected, was the ongoing replacement of old asbestos water pipes in Mogwase with modern 355mm UPVC pipelines. The project forms part of a broader infrastructure renewal programme, aimed at improving water safety and reliability across the municipality.
The third and final site visited was the Mogwase Water Treatment Plant, currently undergoing refurbishment. This project began in February, and experienced initial setbacks due to vandalism and disputes between contractors and local SMMEs.
