A fire in the early hours of Saturday morning, has claimed the lives of a mother and her 1-year old.
The fire, also flattened 122 informal structures, in Kennedy Road, uLundi.
Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi,KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, said teams were dispatched along with social partners to provide relief to the community.
“We urge communities to exercise extreme caution, especially during colder days when the use of open flames, such as izimbawula and heaters, significantly increases the risk of fires” said Buthelezi.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
