Two suspects were arrested for abalone poaching on Sunday, the 01st December 2024, near Khayelitsha, in Cape Town.

About 13 big bags containing abalone with an estimated street value of R1,3 million, were confiscated.

The suspects, aged 32 and 39, are expected to  appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court once they have been charged.

The police said information was received about a vehicle travelling on the N2 Highway with abalone.
The Maitland Flying Squad later saw a vehicle near Khayelitsha and tried to pull it over.
The driver of the vehicle sped off in an effort to get away from the police.

The vehicle was pulled over and all searched, when the goods were uncovered.
