Blue Bottles or Bloublasies have washed up on Overstrand’s beaches, the Overstrand Municipality confirmed on Friday.

The Municipality’s Dean O’ Neill, said in a statement, that lifeguards treated several beachgoers in Kleinmond yesterday.

“The sting can vary from mildly itchy to quite painful, often described as a burning sensation that lingers. The most intense pain usually fades within an hour, but the welts may persist for up to three days.”

As a result, beachgoers are cautioned to pay attention to lifeguards and beach warning signs.

The Municipality also said Voelklip Beach is temporarily closed due to rough seas.
