The Bronkhorstpruit Water Treatment Plant in Region 7, was first shutdown in early December (the 05th) for urgent repairs.
This affected areas supplied by the Zithobeni Reservoirs, including the town of Bronkhorstpruit, Enkandu stria, Ekangala, Rethabiseng, Riamarpark, Zithobile and Thembisile Hani Municipality.

3 days ago, on the 18th December 2024, the plant was off line due to water quality issues, which the Tshwane Municipality attributed to recent heavy rains.

Roaming water tankers were arranged then to provide relief.

Fidel Phiri, Councillor of the area, said the plant was switched off due to high turbulence, caused by heavy rain and would be switched on, soon.

On Friday, the Municipality increased the number of water tankers to communities, due to the quality of water, which is “unprocessable.”

The Municipality also said the water is hazy.

Some residents did not hold back punches in their response to the situation.
Sebenzile Mahlangu said “This can’t be the response we are receiving after so many days without water. We need solutions, rain can’t be the reason we suffering, honestly this is dehumanizing.”

Sii Phiwe said  “I beg open that water, your water has never been clean.”
