At least five stolen Ring Main Unit (RMU) electrical boxes were found at a private property in Selby.
City Power said as a result, a case of possession of stolen property was opened against one of its very own contractors.
The discovery follows an investigation initiated after a tip-off, which led City Power’s security services to uncover the stolen equipment.
The goods will now be returned to City Power’s Reuven Head Office on Thursday morning, 19 December 2024.
The suspect remains at large, but law enforcement is intensifying efforts to track them down, with further charges anticipated as the investigation progresses.
Tshifularo Mashava, City Power CEO, said “we will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to prevent such crimes and to bring the perpetrators to justice. We are not ruling out the involvement of this contractor alone, but are also focusing on other contractors.”
Mashava said the search will also continue internally for the person responsible for the dispatch of such essential equipment.
