Enel Green Power reflected on 10 years of operating in South Africa, since the introduction of the REIPPP Programme ( Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme).

The company has constructed and is operating a 1.2 GW of renewable capacity, which accounts for 20% of the country’s renewable energy capacity.

A 330-MW (Megawatt) facility is underway-the Impofu wind project cluster in the Eastern Cape, set to connect to the grid in 2026.

Beyond South Africa, Enel has developed and operates the 35-MW Ngonye solar project in Zambia.

It has also invested approximately R4.5 billion in community development including enterprise development, upskilling of entrepreneurs, a bursary Programme, a Health Awareness Centre, After-school Programme (ASP),

Manuele Battisti Enel’s Country Manager for Southern Africa said “creating shared value with local communities is paramount. We are dedicated to ensuring that our projects create opportunities for growth and development.”

Battisti said over the next decade, Enel Green Power South Africa, plans to double its operational capacity, targeting an additional 1.2 GW by 2027 and continuing with investments in wind and solar energy, alongside battery storage systems.
