Three reservoirs in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro are critically low due to urgent repairs underway.
These are the Motherwell reservoir (15%), Chelsea (15%) and Greenbushes: 13%

Water supply systems in Nelson Mandela Bay have reduced output, for the next 48 to 72 hours.
This is due to maintenance underway at the Loerie and Nooitgedagt Water Treatment Works.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said
due to a malfunction in the filter bank, the Loerie Water Treatment Works output was reduced from 70 million liters per day (Ml/d) to 35 Ml/d.

Recovery efforts, including repairs at Loerie Water Treatment Work and refilling the Scheepersvlakte Dam, are expected to take at least 48 hours, with full system stabilization occurring thereafter.

Similarly, urgent repairs by the Water User Association operating the system, have delayed the release of water supply into the Scheepersvlakte Balancing Dam, which supplies the Nooitgedagt Water Treatment Works. This has Ed to a decrease in the plant output from 190 Ml/d to approximately 100 Ml/d.

The City also said there will be a planned electricity outage between 5am and 9am, on Thursday morning (the 19th of December 2024) in the Summerstrand /Arlington area.

It is a tree-cutting operation along the 132kV Summerstrand/Arlington distribution line.
Certain sections of this line require a planned power outage to ensure safe and effective vegetation management.

This essential maintenance work will help improve the reliability of the electricity supply, prevent faults caused by overgrown vegetation, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
