Two technicians from City Power were robbed in Alexandra on Thursday.
The incident happened while they were busy fixing a damaged electricity pole between 1st and 5th Avenue along London Road and Roosevelt Street in Alexandra.
In a statement, City Power said the incident occurred on Thursday, 31 October 2024 around 11:45, when four unknown males approached two electricians who were inside a stationary vehicle at corner of 2nd Avenue and London Road in Alexandra.
All their personal belongings were stolen including cellphones and wallets at gunpoint.
A case of armed robbery was reported with the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Tshifularo Mashava, has condemned this second attack on technicians in just 3 months in Alexandra.
“The safety of our staff is paramount, and we cannot continue rendering services in areas where their safety is threatened. We condemn these brazen attacks and urge the community to cooperate in ensuring a safe working environment.”
She also said “we are committed to providing essential services but will not compromise the safety of our employees and contractors. We appeal to the community to help prevent such incidents and protect our personnel as their primary objective is to make ensure that there’s service delivery.”
