Cold weather is expected to continue this week, William Msimanga, a senior forecaster at the South African Weather Service (SAWS) said.
He said disruptive snow continues in the Western and Eastern Cape, as well as icy conditions in Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
Thousands of people were left displaced due to the storms in Cape Town.
The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for UrbanMobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, visited Ntulo Street in Site C Khayelitsha and Short Street in Cravenby, this morning to assess the extent of the damage.
The Cape Agulhas Municipality closed 3 roads temporarily, due to severe flooding, and have requested residents to avoid crossing flooded roads and rivers.
The Overstrand Municipality said in a statement today, that De Bos Dam is 101.6% full.
The Sandbaai Sewerage Pump Station is also reportedly not coping with the amount of rainwater inflow.
National Roads including the R44 Clarence Drive between Rooi-Els and Gordon’s Bay, remains temporarily closed.
Status of fires in the Free State
Johan Breytenbach, General Manager of the Free State Umbrella Fire Protection Association, said to Earthnews365 today, that the fire South of Bethlehem was extinguished this morning.
He also said the Bethel fire in Clarens, which started around 15:30 yesterday rages on.
Another active fire out of control, is in Sunnyside, in Bethlehem.
No fatalities and injuries were reported.
KZN fires
Other active fires sparked by winds are in Mtwalume, in KZN. Residents reported the fires on social media platforms, hoping to get assistance from authorities.
Firefighters were at the Alfred Duma Municipality to extinguish a fire that broke out at a local shop in Illing Road today.
The eThekwini Municipality said a fire broke out at the Queensmead’s Waste Plan facility.
The City advised residents to stay indoors until smoke levels decrease.
Affected residents are in Malvern, Hillary, Flamboyant Park, Escombe, Shallcross, Kharwastan and surrounds.
