The earliest Winter Solstice arrives tonight, at 22:50 in the Southern Hemisphere.
Dubbed the Astronomical beginning of Winter, today’s Soltice is the earliest in 228 years, according to Angelo Ricardo of the Severe Weather and Information Center of South Africa.
The Soltice is characterized by a long night and a short day.
Meanwhile, the South African Weather Service (SAWS), has issued a warning as against high fire danger conditions over parts of the Dawid Kruiper Municipality, in the Northern Cape. This while most temperatures around the country reach a maximum above 18 degrees.
Upington is expected to reach a high of 26 degrees.
