Eskom’s Energy Availability Factor (EAF) improving to 62% since 2023, as well as the launch of South Africa’s first AI data centre, and strategic developments in rail, water, and energy infrastructure, were discussions at Thursday’s session.

Themed “Ease of doing business in Gauteng, the session attracted Leaders in government, business, and infrastructure, to explore ways how to attract investment and improve Gauteng’s economic environment.

The event was co-hosted by the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA), in partnership with the EU Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Southern Africa (EUCCISA), at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice, in Melrose Arch.

Speakers tackling infrastructure for growth in Gauteng, were from Transnet, Eskom, Joburg Water, the Department of Water and Sanitation, and the Gauteng Infrastructure Finance Agency.

Those tackling Special Economic Zones & Industrialisation, were from the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), OR Tambo SEZ, Vaal SEZ, and TASEZ. They explored how SEZs are boosting manufacturing. It emerged at this session, that the Tshwane Automotive SEZ is using marketing intelligence tools to benchmark globally and attract major automotive investments, positioning Africa as a prime destination for industry.
