The Eastern Cape Province has announced a day of mourning for victims of last week’s floods.
About 90 people have died as a result, 60 are adults and 30 children. About 48 of the total amount, are male and 42 females.
A 10-year-old child, is among the deceased.
On Thursday, 19 June 2025, the Eastern Cape plans to remember the 90, by taking time to pause, to remember the deceased.
Oscar Mabuyane, Premier of the Eastern Cape, is in Mnquma, Amathole District Municipality, visiting flood-stricken communities to assess the extent of the damage and provide support.
The visit began at Butterworth City Hall, where several displaced residents are currently sheltered.
