Eskom said there is sufficient electricity for this Winter.

Planned maintenance this week, ending the 26th June 2025, averaged around 3,789 Megawatts (MW). In addition, the Energy Availability Factor (EAF) is between 60% to 64%.

Eskom’s Daphney Mokwena, said there are enough reserves, to manage a peak demands.

This is despite a rise in unplanned outages, which Mokwena said is due to delays in returning units from planned maintenance.

Unplanned outages amount to 15,137MW, which includes 800MW from the delayed Medupi Unit 4.

“The available generation capacity stands at 30 703MW, excluding the 720MW from Kusile Unit 6. Although Kusile Unit 6 has not yet entered commercial operation, it has been contributing to the grid since 23 March 2025.”
