The upgrade of the Brynorth Substation, starts on Monday, the 30 June 2025. City Power said the station is a key component in the electricity distribution network.
Isaac Mangena, Spokesperson of City Power, said the local power utility, is pleased to invest in infrastructure, that will significantly enhance the reliability and stability of electricity supply in Randburg.
“This project represents a proactive step in strengthening our network and reducing the likelihood of power interruptions. It follows a severe incident in December 2020, when the Brynorth Substation suffered extensive damage during a power restoration effort after load shedding. The failure resulted in serious damage to the feeder board, control equipment, and parts of the building itself” said Mangena.
The upgrade will result in a state-of- the-art 11kV feeder board with modern control systems. The building will also be refurbished.
Areas to benefit from the upgrade are Bryanston, River Club, Morningside, Douglasdale, Epsom Downs, Kleve Hill Park, Dimension Data and Parts of William Nicol.
