The first Annual Southern African Oil and Gas Conference, held in Cape Town, this week, from 19-20 March 2025, was themed: “Enabling Sustainable Oil & Gas Development for a Diversified Energy Future.”
The Conference was hosted by the Petroleum Agency of South Africa (PASA), the Department of Mineral Resources (DMPR) and the Southern African Oil and Gas Alliance (SAOGA).
The event was attended by 50 industry experts, 300 delegates and country representatives.
The meeting explored the role of indigenous gas resources, regulatory frameworks and the transitioning to a sustainable energy future.
Dr Haajierah Mosavel, Chief Scientist at the Council of Geoscience (CGS), joined a panel of discussion which focused on “Harnessing New Technologies for Oil & Gas”.
Such technologies are meant to provide sustainability of hydrocarbon development while supporting a balanced approach to energy production and environmental responsibility.
Haajierah focused on the approach of the CGS citing high impact projects such as CCUS, Geothermal and Hydrogen as the new silver bullet to curbing carbon emissions and emphasizing that baseline studies are crucial for policy making.
