Some residents expressed relief at the Gauteng Provincial Government’s 13-point plan to address infrastructure in Gauteng, but others said “believing is seeing.”
Interventions to repair and renew provincial infrastructure, in the Central and business districts, were decided at the Infrastructure War Room.
Elijah Mhlanga, the Spokesperson of the Gauteng Government, said in a statement on Wednesday, such interventions include the newly launched Infrastructure Delivery Platform (IDEP), which is a tool to fast track urgent projects.
“The Department has also taken decisive action by terminating the contracts of non-compliant service providers” he said.
The Gauteng Infrastructure Financing Agency (GIFA), the organisation responsible for implementation, is now part of the Department of Infrastructure Development, to improve financial management and public-private partnerships.
He also said crimes such as illegal connections, vandalism and cable theft, are managed by a multi pronged approach- the Gauteng Essential Infrastructure Task Team, led by the police.
