Rand Water has raised alarm at fast declining levels of water in storage.

In a statement released on Saturday, Rand Water said it has warned Municipalities of over extraction several times, through letters, meetings and through the Gauteng Intergovernmental Forum.

Then Rand Water dropped the bomb, about the Gauteng Water crisis, several authorities have denied.

“Unfortunately, the crisis we sought to prevent has now materialized.”

The Gauteng water supply system is low and in addition, Rand Water reservoirs are critically low.

The ongoing heatwave is expected to worsen the situation.

Rand Water has also urged Municipalities to implement Water Demand Measures discussed at the Gauteng Water Indaba.
This includes curbing water losses by 33%, through repairs of leaks, enforce by laws and addressing illegal connections.
