Just when residents of Hamaanskraal were waiting for clean water to be delivered at the end of October, as promised by the City, subsequent to meters installed last month, there is another setback.
The Temba Water Treatment Works remains off until water quality in the Leeukraal Dam improves.
As a result, the City of Tshwane announced on Tuesday afternoon, that the Themba Treatment Works (TWTW) was shut down on the 07th October 2024.
In a statement, the City said its technicians discovered sewer contamination in the Leeukraal Dam.
“Pumping had to stop to avoid supplying poor water quality to our consumers” the City said.
A team of scientists is monitoring the performance of Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Works to ensure it complies with effluent standards set by the Department of Water and Sanitation.
The City also said it would continue to provide water tankers to communities until the situation normalizes.
According to the City’s schedule, clean water is expected to be supplied as from the end of October 2024, to Mandela Village, Marokolong, Ramotse, Kekana Gardens, kuDube Unit 9, Babelegi Industrial and Bridgeview informal settlement.
