Leon Kluge and his team’s garden exhibition titled “An African dream” won gold in China.

Kluge and his colleagues are part of an ongoing  Greater Bay Area Flower Show, which represented South Africa at the Shenzen flower show held in China.

He is an international garden designer, and artist, from South Africa, who has won several gold awards at international shows, including the Chelsea Flower show  in 2010 and 2012.

The Greater Bay Area Flower Show 2024, in China, has over 38,000 square meters of exhibition space and 44 gardens.

South Africa has won 36 times at the Chelsea Show in the UK.

Kluge expressed excitement at being back at the show, after a four year pause, as a result of COVID. He said this year’s theme at the upcoming  Chelsea show in the United Kingdom, will showcase fynbos and its eco-tourism boost in the Cape.

Fynbos is a shrubland occurring in the Western and Eastern Cape.
It is a mega diverse family of the Proteaceae, Ericaceae, Rutaceae and Iridaceae.

There are 9000 species of Fynbos plants, of which over 6000 are endemic to the Cape. Some 1,736 of these are critically endangered, endangered or vulnerable, according to the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI).
