Roofs were blown off several homes, leaving families stranded in Mashite village and Mogaladi Newstand, in Limpopo.
More homes and infrastructure in Ga-Maila Mapitsane and Manganeng in the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality, were severely affected by heavy rainfall on Sunday and hailstorm on Monday.
Lemson Moropjane, Spokesperson of the Sekhukhune District Municipality, said in a statement on Monday, a consolidated assessment report is being compiled by the District and Makhuduthamaga Municipalities to facilitate a rapid and effective response for all affected families.
“The storm caused significant structural damage, including shattered windows, compromised roofs, and downed electricity supply lines” said Moropjane.
On Monday, Minah Bahula, the Executive Mayor, of Sekhukhune, visited other affected areas in Ga-Maila Mapitsane and Manganeng.
In addition, other affected areas are in Ga-Maila Moshate, Malaeneng, Ga Masemola, Mamone Mooihoek, Letebejane and Ditholong in Ephraim Mogale Municipality.
Despite confirmation of numbers, Bahula has dispatched disaster management teams to assist and calls upon local businesses to join relief efforts.
“Through our mobilisation efforts we can consolidate resources to enable the community to even withstand similar challenges in future. We are also happy to learn that there are no injuries and fatalities reported” she said.
