Hurricane Milton in Florida, in the United States of America, is expected to have wind speed of up to 155 mph, an equivalent of over 249 km per hour.
This is near Category 5, in intensity.
As a result, Florida residents were told to prepare for life-threatening impacts, and to evacuate.
The Global Bank Disaster Risk Reduction and Reconstruction Fund, said Hurricane Milton could be one of the most destructive storms on record for west-central Florida.
The storm, is expected to hit the Tampa area on Wednesday night.
Ron DeSantis, Florida Governor, has declared a state of emergency for 51 areas, and President Biden has approved a pre-landfall emergency declaration, allowing FEMA to coordinate relief efforts.
As a result, the Tampa International Airport has suspended operations, and several other airports will follow suit.
Hurricane and Storm Surge Warnings now cover both the state’s west and east coasts, and shelters are opening to accommodate evacuees.
