A three-day workshop convened in Naivasha, Kenya, from the 15–17 April 2025, was titled

“Hydrogen Cities: Value Chain Opportunities.”

The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) participated in the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

Also present at the workshop, was a diverse group of urban leaders, technical experts, and industry stakeholders from across the globe to explore opportunities of green hydrogen.

Grace Matseba,Advisor for Environmental Sustainability, represented SALGA, alongside Desiree Sehlapelo, Director of Planning and Economic Development from the Waterberg District Municipality.

SALGA said its participation in the workshop provided a platform to share South Africa’s evolving strategies, forge cross-border collaborations and gain valuable insight to help unlock local opportunities and address climate challenges.

The organisation also said this is another milestone in its efforts to empower municipalities to lead in climate action and innovative energy transitions.
