Residents of Paleisheuwel, a small farming community in South Africa’s Western Cape, had to wait for 42 days between one visit from their mobile clinic and another, otherwise, travel on foot for roughly 50 km to the nearest city, to see a doctor or buy basic medicines.
The Paleisheuwel Solar Plant, in the Cederberg Municipality, has broken this cycle, and recently donated a large collection of office furniture to CMAN.
CMAN is a local development agency located in Citrusdal, approximately 50 kilometers from Paleisheuwel. It has a strong focus on health and wellbeing, offering programs that relate to HIV/Aids, Tuberculosis DOT (Directly Observed Therapy), and food security community-oriented care.
The donation included office desks, chairs and assorted tables.
Since July 2019, the residents of this community can go to the Sandveld Health Centre, which offers basic medical services, any time. The center was inaugurated by Enel Green Power with the cooperation of CMAN (the Cederberg Matzikama Aids Network).
Enel’s facility, located in South Africa’s Western Cape province, has an installed capacity of 82.5 MW, and is able to generate more than 153 GWh per year.
That’s the equivalent of the annual energy consumption needs of around 48,000 South African households.
The solar plant, was awarded to Enel Green Power, as part of round four of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).
