The Brixton Reservoir and Water Tower Project, is part of Johannesburg Water’s increased to R1.7 billion investment into infrastructure.

The City is implementing strategic reforms to make Johannesburg Water a self-sustaining entity, focusing on a 10-year investment plan and an “apex priority” pipe replacement programme to reduce leaks and backlogs.

The Brixton Reservoir and Water Tower Project is a critical development, a cornerstone of the Commando Water Supply System, designed to end long-standing supply challenges in Brixton, Crosby, and Hursthill.

The project features a 26-megalitre ground reservoir and a 2-megalitre elevated tower, significantly boosting storage from previous levels.

It has a new 200-litre-per-second pump station and optimized bulk pipelines, to better pressure and service stability.

The upgrade secures consistent water for vital institutions, including Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital, Helen Joseph Hospital, UJ, and the SABC.

The project supported local growth by engaging 25 small businesses (SMMEs) and created 86 job opportunities.
