The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) warned  both motorists and pedestrians to prioritise road safety, this coming long weekend.

Traffic movement is expected to increase.

Xolani Fihla, Spokesperson of the JMPD, said high-accident zones for pedestrians, were identified.

“These locations have seen a worrying trend of incidents, particularly involving people attempting to cross high-speed freeways: N12 Freeway (Eldorado Park stretch) and the M1 Freeway (Booysens area)” said Fihla.

He also appealed to pedestrians to stay off the Freeways such as the N12 and M1, to use designated crossings and to wear bright or reflective clothing, if walking near roads at night or in low light.
