Labour Unions have rejected Transnet’s revised 16% wage increase offer.
Now Labour unions (United National Transport Union (UNTU) and South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (SATAWU) are planning to take it to the streets, should further negotiations fail.
The current three-year wage agreement, concluded in October 2022, comes to an end on the 31 March 2025.
In terms of the latest offer, Transnet has offered the following:
Year 1: 5.5%
Year 2: 5.5%
Year 3: 5%
This represents a 16% wage increment over the three-year period.
This offer includes an increase to the basic salary and related components (13th cheque and pension fund contribution), medical aid subsidy and housing allowance.
Transnet said in a statement, “as management, we remain confident that we will conclude the wage negotiations swiftly, in the interests of our employees, the company, Shareholder and South African economy.”
