A large female Humpback Whale beached at the West Bank Village, in East London, over the weekend.

The whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) measured 13.3 m and weighed an estimated 35 tons.

This is the third whale this year to have beached out of East London waters. The first was in July where multiple carcasses were found at Pleasant and Forest beach.

Another was found at Eastern beach in August 2025.

According to the East London Museum, scientist Kevin Cole, was assisted by local resident Marc Rosslee, to take measurements and samples from the recent whale.

He found no signs of trauma, except shark bites, revealed in a post-mortem.
