A three year old male lion was translocated to Kariega Game Reserve this week.
The lion joins another, moved from the Camdeboo Private Game Reserve, as part of a scientifically managed strategy, to ensure the long-term health and vitality of lion populations.
This is according to an update provided by Kariega Game Reserve.
“Kariega Game Reserve, renowned for its commitment to conservation made this decision not only for the well-being of the lion pride but also to maintain ecological balance within the reserve.”
The lion was collared on arrival, as part of the reserve’s adherence to break-out protocols and to contribute to on-going research that benefits the well-being and management of the species.
The Reserve, also said it would continue consultation with wildlife scientists.
“As members of the Lion Management Forum of South Africa (Limf) our ecology department consults with other member reserves and conservation experts and share all research findings relating to the conservation of this species.”
