Two abalone poachers were arrested by the police (SAPS) on the N1 near Worcester.
One suspect, a 39-year-old male, was arrested for the possession of abalone without a permit, on Tuesday, this week, by a joint operation of K9 Breederiver, Provincial Crime Intelligence, Kuilsrivier STESU in conjunction with Provincial Traffic and Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environmental Affairs.
In another incident, on the same day, a 41-year old man, was arrested in a truck, transporting abalone from Cape Town.
The Worcester Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) conducted a search and discovered 960 dried abalone to the estimated value of R468 105,00 inside the cabin of the truck.
A total amount of 4582 dried abalone with an estimated street value of R2 million was confiscated by the police.
