Liuwa Plain National Park, in Zambia, is under water, and therefore, closed, due to this year’s rains.

The Park said in a notice to visitors, on Tuesday, that this time of year, also known as the Green Season, livens the Park-  the air is alive with bird calls, it is peak time for migratory species and the floodwaters bring out frogs, fish and other lesser-seen life.

“It’s a season of renewal and abundance, though it also means access is extremely limited and our roads and camps remain inaccessible” the Park said.

This year’s rains have led to extensive flooding, transforming plains into a vast wetland.

The Park also said it is monitoring water levels closely and will provide updates as soon as conditions allow for safe reopening.

The Park is home to a range of wildlife, including wildebeest, lions, hyenas and rare bird species.

As a result, the Park is a Ramsar site, an important wetland globally.
