Eskom said this morning load rotation is implemented in Zola and surrounds, whilst repairing the Zola substation.
Load rotation kicks in from between 17:00 and 22:30 daily until June 30, 2024.
Daphne Mokwena, Eskom Spokesperson said consumption is outstripping supply, “while repairing the damaged transformer, we have managed to provide electricity supply to all the affected areas using three other existing transformers in the Zola substation.
However, this temporary measure has led to increased electricity consumption beyond the capacity of these three transformers.”
Cable theft and vandalism are believed to have caused the fire which damaged the transformer. This left most surrounding areas in the dark, including Dobsonville, Emdeni, Jabulani, Moletsane, Mofolo North, Naledi, Tladi, Zola and Zondi.
She also said considering the work completed so far and the remaining tasks, Eskom estimates that all repairs will be concluded by Sunday, June 30, 2024.
Eskom said in a statement that there has been an increase in incidents of theft and vandalism, resulting in the loss of revenue and increased replacement costs.
