Look out for a “blue moon” as from Thursday, the 31st August 2023.
According to Fox Weather SA, the moon will appear full from Wednesday until Friday. This will be the last full moon for the year and the next one will only appear on the 18th September 2024.

A blue or super moon occurs when it is on the opposite side of the earth, relative to the sun.
According to Annette Botha, of Vox Weather, it is also called “blue” because it is the second full moon in just one month.

It will appear much bigger and brighter than a normal moon. Why? “Because your brain plays a trick on you, known as a moon illusion” according to Annette Botha, of Vox Weather SA.
