The Ekurhuleni Municipality confirmed the death of Andile Mngwevu, Mayoral Committee Member (MMC) for Roads and Transport Planning.
The search for Mngwevu and three people travelling with him, began last month, when there were suspicions he was swept away by floodwaters in Mozambique.
Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, Mayor of Ekurhuleni, said Mngwevu died in Chokwe.
He also said he was “a committed public servant, who dedicated his life to improving mobility, infrastructure development and service delivery for the people he served. His passing is a profound loss to the City.”
Panyaza Lesufi, Premier of Gauteng alongside Xhakaza, visited Mngwevu’s family on Tuesday evening.
