The Tshwane Metro Police urged motorists to avoid a flooded bridge in Irene.
In addition to the bridge, two vehicles have broken down, near that bridge, one under it and the another, just past it, towards Cornwall.
The Metro also said traffic is backed up in all directions, with motorists advised to stay clear of any low-lying bridges in all areas of Tshwane.
Elsewhere in Johannesburg, teams are unclogging storm water drains and kerb inlets, which may lead to flooding and road damage during heavy rains.
